How to Prepare Your Logo for Print: A Checklist

Nothing slows down a print job like the wrong logo file. Use this checklist before you send artwork to a printer, sign maker or merch supplier.

1. Use a vector file

Send PDF, EPS, SVG or AI, never a screenshot or a JPG from your website. If you only have a pixel version, convert your logo to vector first. Check the result at 400% zoom: edges should stay perfectly sharp.

2. Convert text to outlines

If your logo contains text, the printer may not have your font. Vectorized logos already have text as shapes, so this step is done for you.

3. Know your colors

  • RGB / HEX for screens and websites.
  • CMYK for most printed matter.
  • Pantone (spot colors) for exact brand colors, merch and screen printing.

Write your colors down once and keep them. The Vexorio Brand kit creates a color sheet with HEX, RGB and approximate CMYK values automatically.

4. Have the right variants

Printers often need a single-color version (for stamps, engraving and embroidery) and a white version (for dark t-shirts and backgrounds). Prepare full color, black, white and one-color versions.

5. Remove the background

A logo on a white rectangle looks wrong on colored material. Make sure the background is transparent and only the logo shapes are in the file.

6. Simplify for small sizes and machines

Very thin lines and tiny details disappear in embroidery and vinyl. Fewer nodes and fewer colors mean cleaner production.

Quick checklist

  1. Vector format (PDF / EPS / SVG)
  2. Text as outlines
  3. Colors documented (HEX, CMYK, Pantone)
  4. Color, black, white and one-color versions
  5. Transparent background
  6. No hairlines or tiny specks
